So...we recently bought a new truck. Originally, we were going to get a cheap under $1,000 truck, just to get back and forth to Menards, Home Depot, etc...because to be honest...we are tired of being stuffed in the car with a pile of 8 foot long boards, or driving all over town to borrow a truck or van to get plywood, or drywall....but then we were hit upside the head with one of those 8 foot long 2x4's ( ok, so not really) BUT we woke up one day and said wait a min...who are we kidding, all the under $1,000 trucks we have found are old and have problems...we don't know much more about cars than to check the oil and washer fluid, and that might be stretching it...lol...oh we do know how to change wiper blades, well Tom does, which he did this weekend on our car, but anyways...so we re-evaluated and decided, we better look for something more in the 2005 range or so, and the lower the miles the better. So now that we had the year range determined we started talking about what other things we wanted in the truck. Did we need the regular cab, crew cab, quad cab, long bed, regular bed, short bed???? Ford, Dodge, Chevy??? Lets just say we learned ALOT about trucks in the last few weeks, things we never knew, and also now when we drive down the road, we notice EVERY truck, and Tom can even pretty much tell you what year it is...lol....
So first we decided we needed an 8 foot bed, that would make it easier to get 2x4s, plywood and drywall...but then slowly, I started to get wrapped up in the details and really wanted the 4 door quad cab, but then we would have to sacrifice the 8 foot bed. But then we went to bed one night and I said, no wait..we need to get back to the basics of WHY we wanted this truck to begin with, which was for the home stores, so back to the main priority being the 8 foot bed...anyways, this is getting really long...bare with me...
Needless to say, I decided to search again, being that it was now a Monday morning and all. We came across an ad for a 2008 Ford F150 regular cab with the long 8 ft bed, with a nice bedliner in it and in our price range. We first thought, "yeah, right" because it only had 20,000 miles on it...there must have been some typo with the price or something, but we called the dealership, and it was correct! So of course we went and drove it that night, and bought it later that week. It had been their parts truck so when they had to travel to another dealership or something to get a part, they would take that truck. There was a small baseball size dent in the front bumper but they fixed it, and she is good as new. Needless to say, she BARELY fits in our garage lol...and yes I said she...I will have to explain that as well in a min....
but here's the main part of this story, which is rather funny....so we think we are all cool now, have a new truck, going to go to Menards and get drywall to finish out the basement stairway...and some wood too. Go in, get it, come out, the kid helps tom load it, tom goes to close the tailgate, and it won't close...the drywall is just a TAD too long. Tom says oh we didn't get it pushed all the way back when we put it in, so lets take it out and reload it, so they do...still won't work...so we drove home with the tailgate down and the wood and drywall strapped in place...Guess the bedliner takes out a 1/2 inch at the front and the back, cuz the bed with the liner measures 95 inches...what is 8 ft...96 inches! yep! So it was kinda funny, but Tom said its not a big deal, don't want to take the liner out, and we have a flat waterproof cover for the back now that will keep it nice as well.
So the explaination of calling the truck "she." Tom said the other day he thought he should name his truck and since its so pretty it should be a girls name. Oh I forgot to mention, the truck is navy blue, and then the trim is black...so anyways, one morning Tom said I know what we are going to name the truck...I said whats that....he said..."Rihanna" I said huh?! he said because the truck is black and blue..get it?! lol ok, so he thought it was funny... :)

That's so funny about the bed liner .. always something, huh? But at least you can strap it down, and cover it. Such a sweet deal! =-)
That is so bad!!! lol justin and i both laughed though, i will admit.
too bad about the liner... but having the tail down isn't a big deal at all. That is an AMAZING deal!
